Universal Bodies - Mandala
Tempe - Arizona
Laser Cut Baltic Birch, Cocobolo connectors, Milled aluminum, Gyroscope.
Conceptualized in response to Japanese Art history as a critical comprehension project. Universal Bodies is a three dimensional kinetic Mandala created as a tool for meditation. Gimbals were actualized to work with the applied energy of a gyroscope. The mandala is a microcosm for the act of meditation and a centering of oneself. As universal bodies are put into motion they tend to stay in motion and the mandala is constantly trying to find its balance, stillness and center of gravity. As outside forces are applied to the mandala the gyroscopic center of kinetic energy adjusts itself on a course to find stillness and nirvana.
